Why "Icebox?"

Icebox Engineering started when my family and I decided to move to Fraser, CO.

Located in the heart of the Fraser River Valley, the area is known as the "Icebox of the Nation", as it is one of the coldest places with its average yearly temperature being just +19F. This is largely because of the average nighttime Winter temperatures between -10F and -20F.

The town of ~1400 people is an outdoor paradise with world-class skiing / snowboarding at Winter Park Resort, amazing hiking for all levels, some of the best mountain biking, both cross-country and downhill, and a wonderful community. It is for these reasons and more that we started Icebox Engineering, so that our family can enjoy all of these activities, and more.

Geoffrey Lake

Engineering Consultant

Geoff has over 25 years of experience in the Aerospace Engineering field, working on projects that span all regimes "from seabed to space."

Starting in March 2000 at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, he worked on the Mars Exploration Rover Project for design through assembly, test and launch operations (ATLO), and through second mission extension operations. He also worked on the Deep Impact mission and regularly did educational outreach.

From 2009 to 2019, Geoff worked for MIT Lincoln Laboratory in their Space Control division, as well as their Air, Missile and Maritime Defense divisions. There he performed all-domain operational analysis, was on the first-light team for the Space Surveillance Telescope (SST), developed algorithms and worked with s/w teams to deploy them for mission data processing exploitation, and developed, led and executed successful multi-phenomenology test and data campaigns.

From 2020 to 2025 he was an engineer for Ball Aerospace, now BAE - Space and Mission Systems. He has led technical teams (from 4 - 70 strong) in analysis, development of hardware and software, and novel operations of flight-programs. He has used his mission experience to determine future gaps in customer needs, then guide technical teams to establish novel solutions to be prepared for requests for proposal when they arrive.

Geoffrey has a Master of Science degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder in Aerospace Engineering Sciences.
